Lifewise developed the first specific homelessness service in Auckland to support young people who are long-term homeless, have serious substance abuse issues and who are at risk of becoming 'chronically homeless' without intervention. They identified the group as being predominately indigenous Māori experiencing issues such as substance abuse, criminal affiliation and activity, family dysfunction and history of abuse.
They developed the service to provide a separate and safe space for homeless youth in Auckland with educational, vocational and cultural (particularly Kapa Haka) elements.
